WALA & “Hortus Medicus”
WALA is sponsoring the international group exhibition “Hortus Medicus” in the Kunstgebäude of Schlosshof Bodenburg near Bad Salzdetfurth (27 June – 22 August 2010). This group exhibition shows works by contemporary artists on the theme of Medicinal Plants.
Even in prehistoric times our ancestors exploited the healing properties of certain plants. Evidence for this is found in burial sites from the New Stone Age, in which medicinal herbs were placed in the grave with the body. In our times the use of medicinal plant products is becoming increasingly popular – even among practitioners of conventional medicine. The exhibition “Hortus Medicus” investigates whether and how painters, sculptors, photographers and other representatives of the fine arts deal with this subject and the perpectives from which they view the "plant as remedy" today.
The catalogue accompanying the exhibition includes articles by scientists who deal with the subject from their own professional viewpoint – among them Annette Greco, head of Development at WALA Medicines.
