Dr.Hauschka Skin Care & Sukuma Millennium Award

Dr.Hauschka Skin Care has been sponsoring the “Sukuma Millennium Award”, a European film prize that promotes and advances contributions by individuals towards achieving the UN Millennium Goals, since 2007. In Swahili, the East African lingua franca, sukuma means to “rise”, “resist” or “incite.” Participants in the Sukuma Millennium Award have the chance to turn their visions into reality – in the form of cinema commercials on topics such as fair trade filmed with the help of prominent artists. Prizes are awarded to the most powerful ideas for commercials that draw attention to various facets of the UN Millennium Development Goals for fighting poverty. The commercials are a creative way to show how we can help reach these global development goals in our everyday lives. The prize, which is awarded throughout Europe, is specifically aimed at lay people rather than renowned filmmakers. “Anyone can participate. All we want are ideas for films – the description should fit on an A4 sheet of paper," says Sascha Kornek, one of the founders of the Sukuma project. The innovative educational concept received the UNESCO Decade Project Award and was honoured as a best practice initiative by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
