WALA imports candelilla wax from Mexico where the wax is extracted using a process that is more than a hundred years old. At harvesting the entire plant is cut, leaving only the rootstock from which the shrub regenerates again completely within three years. The workers boil the freshly harvested plant parts in water causing the wax to melt and rise to the surface. The floating wax is then skimmed off and collected in containers where it cools and solidifies. The plant residues remaining after boiling are dried in the sun and used to heat the water for the next wax extraction.
